With my EAP background, I pefer to work with a brief, solution-focused mind-set while drawing ideas and tools from many other modalities.  Good counselors generally intuit what interventions will be successful  with each client and adjust their style for the client.  However, none of us are 100% successful at that and I encourage my clients to collaborate in their treatment, letting me know what is and isn't working so we can better tailor their sessions for faster progress.  The secret to success is within the individual client;  my job is just to help them find their own key. If we don't "click" within the first two sessions,it will be obvious to both of us. No counselor is the right person for every client. It isn't frequent, but if it happens, I will be happy to refer you to a counselor who will be a better match for you.
